B. Johansen asked:

There are many people who have been suffering from depression and current statistics shows that this problem is increasing every day. This may be caused due to a variety of reasons and certainly being in the middle of very difficult financial times doesn’t help. Whatever the reasons behind the depression, it’s not easy to overcome depression; it requires a plan and the determination to stick to the plan to overcome this disease and all of its associated harmful effects.

The first step in overcoming depression is to find out the reasons behind it. Sometimes this is very difficult, but not impossible. Spend some time analyzing the possible reasons behind why you might be depressed. Sometimes you just feel hopeless, like there is nothing that you can do. In that type of situation the best thing to do is to focus on your positive achievements. This will help to increase your level of confidence and may help you not to fall further into a more severe depression.

You can also consider getting help from someone who has a close relationship with you. A close friend can also help you analyze the reasons for your depression and give some encouragement and support that can help you to deal with your depression.

Another important suggestion is not to spend too much time by yourself because it can lead you further into depression. Try to keep in touch with your friends and family members and if possible become involved with outside activities with your family and friends. Get involved in more activities that help to keep you busy and active. Its good not only for your mind but for your body as well. Although staying active and being involved is not going to be a complete solution, it may be a help when you’re depressed to lighten your mod a little.

The most important thing is to recognize the fact that you are depressed and that there are steps you can take to help yourself. If the depression continues to persist or worsens you may need to consider seeking professional help. There are times when medications are required for a period of time to help you regain a more even balance.

If you recognize that you are depressed, you can take steps to successfully overcome depression and regain a more normal life. Best of luck and keep your head up, it’s not a hopeless situation as it sometimes seems.

Josephine C asked:

Hey all, I just got out of the hospital after 3 days of tests for various gastrointestinal issues. I have been depressed for awhile but never sought treatment because I thought I could shake it off but for the past month I have been violently physically ill, vomiting and diarrhea and loss of appetite. I was panicking and would burst into tears convinced that I was going to die. They finally did all the tests and determined that physically I am in great shape and that this is all a result of untreated anxiety and depression. I am now starting 10mg of Lexapro and Xanax that I will use temporarily until the Lexapro kicks in. I am hoping to hear some success stories about overcoming depression and the physical symptoms. Please tell me your story. I need positive encouragement and support right now. I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ and I believe that prayer is a great healer as well. Thanks for sharing your stories. Will I feel better soon?
